Day 57

Today started from very hazy morning. I was so worried to put up the long ladder to do collar tie since lamber is wet and slippery. So we did west study room rafters instead. It was short rafters and easy to handle. First thing we did was to fix the bird's mouth pattern we made the other day. We wanted the inside edge to be flush with inside wall. After we mess up few patterns, we realize it is impossible to have height we want, and make the bird's mouth to the place we want. After we did all that work, we decided to use the first one. Then, we just need to measure from top to bird's mouth, bird's mouth to the place that touch to the valley beam. Sounds easy, but in some reason the numbers we got doesn't want to work together. There was few rafters that took forever.

今日は朝から深い霧がでていた。木材はぬれると滑りやすいので長いはしごを立てかけて高いところでの作業はやめにして、西の小さな切妻の屋根枠作り。短い垂木なので作業がしやすい。まず最初にしたことは、先日作った鳥口カットのパターンを直すこと。石膏ボードを張るときのことを考えて、鳥口カットの先と壁の内側を面一にしたいところ。いくつか作ってはやり直し作ってはやり直ししたところ必要な高さを出して、壁と面一にするというのは無理なことに気付いた。結局最初のパターンをもとに、頂点から鳥口まで、鳥口から谷にくるビームまでをそれぞれ測って、長さを出していく。簡単に聞こえるけれど、このたくさんの数字、しかも小数点ではなく分数ででてくる小さな数に翻弄され、間違えまくってえらく時間のかかる垂木がいくつかあった。
But anyway, we finished small rafters. It looks more and more like a roof!

が、とにもかくにも小さめの屋根完成。どんどん家らしくなってきた。
We got a valley!　ちゃんとできるか心配していた谷間もうまく行った。と思う。
