Day 55

It's end of summer... Often we were frustrated the slow progress, but when we look back, actually it was faster than I imagined. We mistook a lot, but at the same time we learned a lot. It is pretty good feeling to build a place where we will spend everyday. I have a confidence that it would be our perfect comfy place we haven't have after the fire. Thanks to everyone who helped and support us physically and mentally.

あー夏が終わってしまうと素人大工三人で記念写真。こんなにがんばってるのに全然進まへんと落ち込んだりもしたけれど、思い返せば怪我もなく思ったより順調にいってる。いっぱい間違えたけど、その都度学んでるし。毎日自分たちが暮らすところを自分たちで組み立てていってるのって結構気分が良い。ここが火事の後未だに手の届かない、私たちに取って完璧に心地いい空間になる自信あり。体を使って、また精神的に支えてくれている皆さんどうもありがとうございます。
Now our rafter doesn't reach all the way because of west gable and valley beam. We filled in shorter rafter there. This angle cut confuse us a lot. Then we put some collar ties up with 2x6. We made chalk line at 8' 1" in both side. But since our rafter is not perfectly same height like machine made, we can't trust all lines. So we nailed 2x4 as temporally support. So all the collar ties can rest on same height. Good idea. This process is soooo much easier compare to rafter.　This will be the height of our room.

西の切妻にかかるところまできたので短い垂木に取りかかる。谷にくる太めの木とその延長で囲まれた部分を埋めていく。この部分は斜めに切って斜めに削がなければならなくてややこしい。その後カラータイというものをつけていった。これは屋根が重みで広がっていかないように止めておくもの。床から８フィートと１インチのところで線を引いたけれど、私たちの垂木は完璧に同じ高さじゃないのでそこまで線は信用できない。と言うことでそこに２x４をかり止めすることに。これですべてのカラータイが同じ高さに並ぶ。これはなかなかの案。垂木に比べるとなんと楽な作業。これが２階の部屋の高さになる。
