Day 51

Now we can get the feeling of having roof! We took off braces from north half of ridge beam, since it was exactly the place one of the rafter is going to be. Then realize the ridge beam looks tiny bit going down. So we used jack to to push it up. But it didn't really work, but we say it is ok. However we realize rafter that we cut out from same pattern are making different gap at the bird's mouth cut. Which means our rafter is going towerd east. So we took off some nails from last few rafters, push everything to west little by little to make south and north ridge beam to meet.

屋根の形が見えてきた。北半分の棟木のちょうど支えのところに垂木がくるので外してしまうことに。その後棟木が少し下がっていることに気づく。床のあるところからジャッキで少し持ち上げる。ほとんど動かないので，ほんの少しやし，大丈夫ということにする。ところが，もう一つ嫌なことに気づく。今までパターンにあわせて垂木を切ってきたはずなのに，隙間が大きく変わっていることに気づく。ということは，棟木が東によりすぎている。南半分とつなげなくてはいけないのでいくつか垂木の釘を抜き，無理矢理西に動かす。
We will start the rafter above this open area. We nailed 2x6 almost flush to the knee wall across this space. So we can rest rafter there. After we put up south ridge beam, we brought scaffolding on first floor. Ready for the rafter there. Looks more like a house! But ridge beam doesn't meet up perfect.

南半分の棟木を設置し，足場を一階吹き抜け部分に設置。内壁の一番上と同じ高さに２x６を打ち付け，ここが垂木を設置するときにしばらく支えてくれる部分になる。ずいぶん家らしくなってきたが，実はまだ棟木はうまくつながっていない。
