Day 42

Bob woke up at 4am in the morning with eureka! This was good idea. We nailed long 2x4 on top of top plate on the center piece. One nail on top of east top plate as a pivot point. Then move this 2x4 till it get straight together. Smart! This way we can push around on the floor without climbing up ladder. We use this 2x4 as a scab until later. So we nailed some more to make it steady.

Look this beautiful straight line.

ボブが朝の４時にユリイカ！と目覚めた。昨日の落ち込みを回復すべく、朝からその方法を試してみる。長い２x４を切妻の真ん中部分にトッププレートの上から打ち付け、東側の部分には一本だけ釘を支点になる部分に打ち込む。これではしごに上らなくても要領よく力を加えることができる。床から操作できるというのは安全でいい。２x４を東側と真ん中がきちんとまっすぐ並ぶところまで動かし、そこで釘で打ち付けてしまう。しばらくはこの２x４を固定用の木材としておいておくので、さらに何カ所かしっかりとクギを打ち付ける。スゴーイ。これは効果的だった。

However..., when we put up last piece for this gable we found the fact we didn't want to know. The gap between center and last west piece doesn't look right. This center piece wasn't square. We already scab this long 2x4 all over. We took off most of the part and fixed them. Good it was still fixable, but I can't believe how many times this gable upset us.

If you look up from south side, this house is huge. Our land is on a slope north high south low. It looks like it have 3, 4 floors.

しかしながら、その後西側を組み立て立ち上げたときに、知りたくもなかった事実にまたしても気付く。つながる予定の部分の隙間がどうもおかしい。真ん中の部分が直角になってなかった。既にしっかりと固定してしまったのにー。また時間をかけ、打ち付けたものを外し、直してもう一度打ち付ける。思ったより大変ではなかったのはいいけれど何度この切妻に翻弄されたことか。

南側から見るとこの家は３階、４階建てにも見えるほどでかい。北から南への坂に建っているからね。
