Day 29

Before we start second floor, we had two different suggestions of making roof. Dick the architect who give us a lots of nice ideas, he is going to check which roof structure works for us better. While we were waiting him we started boxing. North side still have a big hole, since the machine that plumbing company brought the other day could not work there. So started from east side, hoping they will bring smaller machine today while we are working south. We nailed this wood board half inch overlap to the concrete. Made a chalk line and put up first row. This will make first floor studs steady before second floor starts.

Later Dick visit us about the with some papers that he figured our house. How nice he is. I like how he show us a logic to chose. So we decided the roof Mr. Drake suggested. We will put another 2x board on top of second floor, and bring the roof little bit higher. This simple solution will give us more room in second floor, roof can have more hung over, don't need to worry about I joists to be weaker, and don't need to cut each I joists angle. Sounds good!

２階を始める前に、別べつの人に推薦された屋根を作るときの構造を二つのうちどちらかを選ばなくてはいけない。ディックがちょっと調べてあげると昨日帰った。その結果待ちの間、外壁を打ち付け、柱を垂直に固定、二階作りに備える。先日きた水道工事の人は中くらいのシャベルカーで来たので、狭い北側は土を戻してもらえなかった。東南西を壁を作る間にきてもらえることを願う。床に使ったいたよりも少し薄い板を１／２インチコンクリートにかぶさるように打ち付けて行く。

その後ディックがいろいろと計算したプランを持ってきて説明。なんていい人！建築のバックグラウンドのない私たちに、論理的に選べるようにしてくれる。結局、昨日三人でたいした論理抜きにほぼ決定していたドレイクさんに提案された方法でいくことに決定。Iジョイストに屋根を固定するか、床の上に２xの板を一枚おき、それに屋根を固定するかだけの違い。床に一枚木材を置くだけで、少し屋根があがり、２階が広くなり、窓の外側にせりだす屋根が広くなり、いちいちIジョイスとを斜めに切らなくてもいいし、切ることでIジョイスとが弱くなる心配をしなくてもよい。その方がよさそう。

When we do boxing, we ignore windows and doors. And cut the square out later with circular saw. Plumbing company came after we finished today. So we will start from north wall tomorrow.

壁を打ち付けるとき窓やドアは無視して打ち付け、後から丸鋸であける。水道工事の人たちがくる前に西壁まで終えてしまったので、北壁は明日することにする。
