Day 18 : Wall

We started a wall!! This is whole different thing from floor making. We put our 3 brains and 2 more brains from who visited us. We started from shorter and simpler south wall. We have kitchen door, and wall that goes on the beam. Our exterior wall is 2x6. When we made a header, there is a space between. So we needed to run to the town and get insulation for that space. We made a chalk line on the floor 5 3/4 from outside. This will be a guide when we put up this wall. Meager corner with two 2x6, and 2x4 in between. Last time when I measure the beam, it was confusing. We end up took long time to fix them. I suffered from their icy look for a while. And did it again! Well, part of reason I mistake a lot is because of this measurement system. In blue print, some written in feet and inches, and some are just inches, also there are number I don't know how to read. I don't like this one foot is 12 inches, not 10. I don't like this 1 inch have 32 graduation, not 10. Bob, the math teacher, please teach the metric system more in the school. So life would be much simpler and easier.

今日から床作りから一変かわって壁作りが始まりました。始まりはいつも文殊の知恵待ちです。３人といわず、様子を見に来た２人も合わせてあれやこれやと考える。とりあえず一番短くてシンプルな南の壁からスタート。キッチンのドアとビームの上を走る壁等の細工が必要。ドアのためのヘッダーようの断熱材が届いていないことに気づき、町まで取りに行った。床に外から５３／４の線を引き、角用に２x６と２x４の組み合わせ、ドア用の線以外はビームと同じ要領で印を書き込んでいく。前回ビームを測って間違いだらけで後々直すはめに。その後二人の冷たい視線にしばらく耐えたものの、またやってしまった。このインチとフィートにはやられる。ブループリントにはインチだけで書いてあるのもあるし、フィートを使っている部分もある。しかも訳の分からん数字まである。この１フィートが１０じゃなくて１２インチなんも、１インチが１０じゃなくて３２で分けてあるのも腹立たしい。ボブ、数学の先生だからには子供たちにメートル法を広めてください。
Anyway, Rick to prepare for the temporally electricity. Also brought a pomp for us. So finally we started to take care of the basement water. We We used long hose and siphon up almost to the entrance. We use this pretty often in Japan for a oil heater, but I never tried this big. It was fun.

それはさておき、リックが仮電力を引く準備にきてくれました。ついでに地下室の水をどうにかしようとポンプも持ってきてくれました。長いホースを坂を下った入り口付近まで引っぱり灯油ポンプ方式で水を出す。灯油ストーブと違ってこんな大きな規模での実際に使える理科の実験はなんだか楽しい。
