GIFT展〜大切な子供達へ贈るアート in Kyoto
京都三条京阪の近くので開催中の展覧会「GIFT展〜大切な子供達へ贈るアート」に参加しています。子供が産まれてから、しばらくは手の汚れる陶芸は特にうまく制作時間を作ることができなかった。何時間か早く起きて制作しようとしても、いつもより少ししか制作できなかったり、う〜ん、これは結構たいへん。とりあえず日本に帰って、気持ちを充電しよう。と予定を立てた矢先のお誘い。不安ながらも面白そうなので参加することにした。私の他に、平面、立体の作家が他に４人。皆さんうちの子より大きなお子さんがいます。
Now I am in the show "GIFT" at Sfera Exhibition in Kyoto. Theme of this show is art for kids. After my son was born, I was spending hard time to make works especially ceramics since it make my hand dirty, and can't stop right away when he cries. Even if I wake up few hours early to do my work, sometime I can work less than usual. I was a little frustrated, so I planed a trip to Japan to refresh my mind. Then I got an invitation for the show. I wasn't sure I can make enough works, but sounded fun. I decided to join. There are 4 other artists except me. All have kids they are a little older than my son.
One of the important thing I always keep in my mind is that art should be enjoyed in everybody's everyday life. Since this show is about kids and parents, we made a space in the center with rug and some sculptures that people can touch and get cozy. I like how we installed that are not just gallery showing "art works" to "art people" who can afford, saying do not touch all over.
We did a workshop "Let's be a King!". It was appropriate workshop for Kid's day/ Boy's day in one of golden week holidays. We were glad many people joined us more than I expected.
Put their very own crowns on the head, and took photo under Japanese lacquered work of Aya Kametani.
今回は子供が産まれる前に作った作品を少しと、展覧会の話をもらってから作った作品、以前このブログで紹介したことのある映像＋他２点も映像をまとめて一本にしたビデオ作品をトランク一杯に詰めて帰国した。

子供に関する作品を展示するとのことだったので、私と息子の最も重要な共同作業にちなんで離乳食に使えるスプーンとお茶碗、遊べるシルエットパズルのテーブルセットなどを新しく制作した。
One of the rule for this show was that all the works should related some how with kids. I made set of spoons and bowls, since feeding my son is big part of our collaboration these days. Also I made silhouette puzzle tableware sets.
生まれてからだんだんと体の機能が備わってきて、いろんな音や色、動くものや感触を楽しんでいる息子を見て、あ〜こんなん好きやった！とかこんな些細なことがすっごく面白かったなとか、大人になって自分の鈍ってきている感性にちょっと反省したりして生活しています。そんな自分の住む世界に興味津々に反応する、ちっちゃい人間達を横に制作するアーティスト達の作品なので、子供がいなくても楽しめるはず。
It is interesting to see my son develops his functions step by step everyday. He enjoys varieties of color, sound, shape, moving things, and different textures and temperatures. He reminds me that I used to like this and that, was excited with such a simple things. He made me realize maybe my sensitivity fades with my maturity. I need to get back to curious Momoko as soon as possible as an artist.
The artists in this show watch these beautiful little human who have sharp sensibility and sense of wonder to the world they live everyday. I think everybody can enjoy this show even if you don't have kids.

Tunnel video

One dayI drove the highway nearby at night. I was so worried in some reason. And realize I've never drove roads without any lights. The only light I had was the light from my car. I just need to believe this road won't end suddenly, the light getting closer from far away is driving the other side of road. Usually I'm not the one driving. So I felt this road is not familiar at all. What if this road takes me to very strange place....... In that situation I would say "Kitsune ni tsumamareta!"in Japanese. It means I was bewitched by a fox! It's interesting how the road I know all the time would be so dramatic just from my feeling.
The fox and the car is turning by heat from the light.

ある夜、家の近くの高速道路を車で走った。なぜかしらとてつもない不安感に襲われながらのドライブ。思えば街頭も何もない真っ暗な道を運転するのは初めて。自分の車のライトしかたよりがない。この道が突然終わってしまわないように、遠くから迫ってくる光が道の反対側を走っているように信じるしかない。見慣れたはずのこの道がどこか変なところに行き着いたらどうしよう。そうなったら狐につままれた！と叫ぼう。いつもの道が気持ち次第でこんなにドラマティックな舞台になるなんて。

Show information
Finally I am writing in here that my solo show is ongoing at The Kansas City Artists Coalition, Charno gallery in Kansas City from March 2nd to 30th. I have some new works I did at my new studio! Since I have to start from setting kilns, figure out glazes, set up for metal workshop in few months, it was really busy. But at the same time, I was pretty happy I could start work for my art again.
今更ですが、私の個展について少しお知らせです。実は３月２日から３０日までともう既にKansas City Artists Coalition, Charno gallery という Kansas City にあるギャラリーで始まっています。いくつかこの新しい作業場で作ったものも展示してあります。間に合ってよかった！窯をつなぐところから、釉薬も新しく作らなければならなかったし、金工の作業場も１ヶ月半ほどの間に作らなければいけなかったので、かなり慌ただしく忙しい日々でした。同時にやっと制作を始めれてなかなか幸せいっぱいな毎日でした。
The opening party was March 2nd . I did an artist talk. I was pretty nervous, but seemed like my Japanese English worked ok. I had lots of good responds. Thank you for everybody who came to the opening.
オープニングは初日、アーティストトークがあるのでかなり心配でしたが、どうもこの日本人英語が逆によかったようで、たくさんよい意見をいただきました。足を運んでくれた皆さんどうもありがとうございます。
It is up until March 30th. My work is difficult to show in a photo. If you are lucky and happen to be around Kansas City that day, don’t forget to stop by at the gallery.
３月３０日まで展示してあるのでよろしければご高覧ください。私の作品はかなり写真に収めるのが難しいので、その間にカンザスシティーにいる！というラッキーな方はぜひともギャラリーまで足を伸ばしましょう。

"All Steamed Up" show
I am in this show "All Steamed Up" at Cinema Gallery, IL. I was late to post this here, so the opening was last Saturday. But it is on going till January 21.
I sent a teapot I really like. It's one of my first experiment piece with clay and metal. I decided to let it go, because our building house project is getting closer to the stage that we can move in. And I can start working on my art again soon. Until we make actual studio building, I will set my studio space in basement temporally. Still have a lot to do, but at least electricity plug is ready for a kiln. I can't wait t o touch clay again!! You will see, 2012 will be a productive year!
