Day 48

Well, we were wrong... The first thing we did in the morning was to put whole ridge beam on the slid we made on top of gable. Holy Moly it was dangerous. To reach that high we needed to stand on a step ladder on the wobbly scaffolding. One person stand there to guide the ridge beam to the pocket, and other people hold it tight, so the beam doesn't twist around. After one side was up, other person had a extensional ladder laid on south gable, and carried the other side of beam step by step. But it try to bow to the open space. It's too high, no one can do anything. It wasn't a good idea at all. When it is one board it was straight, but once it connect to one long piece, it turned into a big snake.

あ〜うまくいくと思ったのに〜。朝一でしたことは、昨日つなげて一本にしたビームを切妻の頂点に作ったポケットに設置。えらいこっちゃ、これは危ない。その高さに手を届かせるには大きい足場の上に小さなはしごを置いてその上でつま先立ち。一人がそこに立ちビームがポケットに収まるようにガイド、ほかの二人はビームをまっすぐに保つ。その後、もう一人が切妻にはしごをのばして立てかけ一段一段ビームを肩に上っていく。もう高すぎて誰もビームをまっすぐに保てないのでなすがまま。やんちゃなビームはダイニングの吹き出しに向かって反り返る。無理無理無理と後一歩のところでもう一度ビームを床におろす。一本ならほぼまっすぐに保てるのに、２本つなげると大蛇のようにくねる。いい考えやと思ったのに。
So, we took off the scab, and decided to put up one half first. We stand a plumbed and squared brace with 2x4 in a right place. Ah, we should've nailed scrap 2x4 to lest the beam on. Well, it is not too late. We just always chose a hard way. Then, start rafter. First cut a pattern. Both side are little bit different, but close enough.

とりあえずつなげていた板を外し、先に半分だけあげることに。２x４の垂直直角をきちんと出して、ビームがくるところに立ち上げる。アー短い２x４を一本横向きにビームをのせれるように止めておくんだった。いつも険しい道を選んでしまう。ま、今からでもと高いところでの作業。ようやくビームが固定された。ようやく垂木のカットに入る。最初に測った長い２x６を方として切る。左右ちょっとずれがあるけれど、許容範囲かな。
Our carpenter skill in the past makes a lots of work now. Floor board is sticking out a little bit, so we need to adjust each. End of the day I was just happy that nobody hurt today.

今までの大工仕事が今響いてことをややこしくする。床板が少し突き出ているのでそれにあわせて切っていかないといけない。ともかく今日は誰も落っこちなかったのでよかった。
