About a time we finished up the floor the lumber came. Lumber man brought a window size with him. So today we will check the wall size and window size in the blue print. I need to think about the bathroom window size which I plan to make with wine bottle.
We finished in the morning, since today was very hot over 100F day. Then we went to see the flood. It reminds me Island country Japan....

Day 16
Keep working for the floor. Almost done. Lumber for the wall will not be deliver us until tomorrow morning. We quit today, and finish the floor before the lumber arrive when it is still cool. Josh's brother came back for a month vacation from Korea. It was his first time to see the finished plan. He is so pale compare to us brown red...
The dog decided to hung out here all day. He was trying to make a good relation ship with our neighbor. Mr and Mrs Cows came to say hi to us. I am not too kind to invite them inside, but instead I took a nice family photo for them.

Day 15
Today we started from fixing stair box.... Then start putting more floors. After a while we got a rhythm. I think I like this work. Didn't feel so tired like always. Maybe we can finish this tomorrow!
After the flood
After the flood yesterday, water is still there. At least the dirt settled, and the water looks cleaner. The water in the outside pit looked cleaner until this visiter came. This was second time he visited us. We don't know where he lives, who is his family. But seems like he decided to think here as his play ground. He jumped into the pit, running around with refreshing splash sound. Running up to our mountain. Come down to hug with wet body. Tried to come up to our floor. We have a feeling he will visit us and jump into a pool everyday from now on.

Day 14 : First half
What a shitty day.... Last night we had a huge thunder storm. When we get there in the morning, we were surprised from water in the pit. Then we realized our basement turned into pool! And then we found out we had a mudslide on east side. And then we started our day from digging up our ladder.... It was so hard to save our ladders. We tried, but it is not even straight anymore.... The clay was pretty sticky. It might be a good clay for ceramics. After I set up studio, I am going to test the clay, and make something.
We have drain, but haven't hooked up anything. Our basement is the lowest..... It looked cool from out side. But it was wet, uncomfortable, and inconvenient to work with. Hmmm cranky.

Day 14 : Second half
After the frustrated morning, it went well from afternoon. We put up rim board, and made a hole for the stair way, also started to put a floor sheet! We did pretty good. When we were putting the rim board, to make it easier to work we started to put the floor board up. Then things looked different. We got a different view. We got different hight. And we can walk around on our basement. Tomorrow we will still have a pool in our basement, but still have a floor to walk.

Day 13
Today it was foggy day. Josh was struggling with his eye glasses that get cloud every time he need to focus. I thought it's funny, but I guess it is dangerous. We put squash board to the place that need to hold heavy main walls. This squash board is tiny bit higher than I joists. So when we put up walls and roof, it would have more surface to hold the weight. We needed lots of smaller wood block for this. We had a big family reunion in the afternoon. So today also we only could work half a day... Hope tomorrow the weather would get nicer and we could work all day.
Day 12
We kind of woke up in the morning. It was a thunder storm. Of course we went back to sleep immediately, and got to get sleep in. In the afternoon the sky started to clear out. We could work there half a day. We put up the side board to the floor joists. We needed to work from out side. But since we still have a deep pit all around, it was a day to fight with ladder. After the rain, ground was very soft. We needed to set our ladder on gravel, otherwise it would sink. After a while we started to have a nice team work.

Day 11
Today you can see the progress a little better. We put more than half of I joists up. Very first thing we did today, and spent nice long time was to put 3 basement poles in a place, and made the beam level. But after all the first measurement doesn't really mean anything anymore. When we put I joists we needed to do adjustment. But that's ok.
After we put up poles, we started make marks for the I joists. 16 feet in between I joists. We chalked 1" 3/8 far from out side wall that's where I joists start. Use nail gun to nail both ends. This nail gun made our work so much easier and faster. I can't imagine do all this work with hand hummer. Good thing human keep inventing new tools. It makes us weaker, but I think it's ok. Anyway, our basement ceiling is still just sticks, but this shadow made me cooler. We finished up to stair ways. Then, we put our 3 brains together plus Mr. Drake's half brain over the phone, spent quite long time, and figured out stair part. So tomorrow we should be able to start smoother.

Thank you Bob so much to help us. My dogs were barking and asking me to call it a day. So we left the site.

Day 10
You can't see that much difference from yesterday in this angle, but we started! In the morning we were clumsy to figure out how to start, but I thought we were doing pretty good. We put floor insulation and 2x6 all around the wall, and bolt them together. Made a beam with 8 2x10. We kind of had a plan how we bring it to the pocket in the center. But Holy Moly it was heavy.
We brought one side up to the corner, but could not get a idea confident enough to go to the next step. Then, the Saver Rick walked in just in time! He called his brother Chris who have a tractor to lift it up. It is nice to live in country, people have machines...

Once he drop this heavy beam in the crevasse with heavy sound. After that everything happened so quickly. He put the beam in the right place without any difficulty. Even if this is very heavy thick wood and strong enough to support whole house, it is weak and wobbly for side ways. So we put up some temporally support to keep it straight until we put I joists. Also we put basement poll up to support beam too. And we did call it a day.

Day 9, in the morning
After couple days of waiting time, exciting floor pouring started. It was pretty fun to watch. They put plastic sheet and gage on top of gravel, and divided the floor to about 6 blocks, then started pouring from one corner to the other.
In some reason they looked like farming in our basement. Anyway, this long T shape tool made this whole floor so smooth. In the last block, everybody gather together in small square. One by one they can get out from the basement.

Finishing up
He was the man finished up our basement floor. This finishing amused me.
Day 9, afternoon
After the floor get harder enough to walk, they started polishing. There are metal sheets on bottom of the machine to polish. Did several times. It was interesting that concrete changes the surface from very rough to shine.

Red red BLUE!
While we are waiting for the basement floor to pour...
We picked cherries. They are nice pretty red, ready to jump into my mouth. Yammy. Looking forward to have Marilyn's cherry pie! Also I got pair of red cowboy boots. Here kids are running around with cowboy boots. They go to school with cowboy boots. Hard ware store sells cowboy boots.

And, we got our blue print!!! Thank you Mr. Drake to do this for us. We brought lots of questions with us. He made us all clear (so far) with little bit of old people's humor. He have unique atmosphere, too. He is a kind of person I want to have as my grand father's best friend who visits him often. Well, that wish will never come true, though...

Day 8
We got rough plumbing before the basement floor pour. Now you can see where the basement bath tab, and toilet would be, where the 1st floor kitchen sink would be. We also got inside and outside drain tile. It called tile because it was bisqued tile in old days. So I'm assuming that's the red brick tube tile you can find near old house. Now we use plastic tube that have lots of small halls. I hope our basement would be far from flooded.
