Kitchen, living room, entrance, and dining room

After we finished up stairs flooring, we started down stairs from kitchen and living room. Kitchen was a little complicated because there are lots of corners, and also we needed to move refrigerator to put floors underneath. Also we have two closets there.

２階の床を終えたので、一階は台所とリビング／ライブラリーから始めた。キッチンはいろいろと角が多くてちょっとややこしい、というかめんどくさい。しかももう既に冷蔵庫を設置してあるので、それを動かしてその下にも床を敷く。台所にはクローゼットが二つあるので、そこもつなげてうめなければ。
On the other hand living room is bigger, but easier since it is just a simple square. It's all covered. No rug any more!

それに比べてリビングは広いけれど、いたってシンプル。ここももうすべて床が張れ、ラグのパズルとはおさらば。
We don't have a door for the living room. So the floor continues to the entrance. And now it get's complicated.

リビングにはドアがないので、床は玄関へと続く。ここまでくるとまたややこしい。
After kitchen, I started working on dining room. As a kitchen door, we are planning to have a cafe door like the one that a bar in western cowboy movie always have, the swing door. So the floor is continuing to dining room.

台所を終えた私はそのままダイニングの作業を始めた。キッチンのドアとして、西部劇のバーについてる、あのスウィングするカフェドアたるものを使う予定。なので床はそのままつなげる。

Sakura!

Sakura front line is over there. Cherry blossom tree we planted for our wedding ceremony is started to bloom. ...Actually, while I got lazy updating, now it is full of flowers. Someday I would like to do Barnard Ohanami like I enjoyed every year when I was in Japan. This year spring was so early.

Grade up! bedroom

We moved out from guest room, and moved into our master bedroom in second floor! We installed master bedroom door, so we can cut out the dust. Usually you install the door before you install floor because you want to make sure the height is enough for the door. But from Bob's experience, when he built his house, he needed to uninstall a door to put floor. So we decided to do doors later. But it was perfect height. We just needed to adjust level and plumb. I think it is better this way, so flooring around the door flame is much simple.

ついにゲストルームを後にし、第二の部屋に引っ越し。次の部屋は待ち望んでいたマスターベッドルーム。この部屋だけでもとドアを取り付け、出来るだけほこりが入らないようにする。通常ドアを設置するのに十分な高さを持たせるため、床を張る前にドアを取り付ける。ただ、ボブの経験上、彼が家を建てたとき、一度取り付けたドアを床を張る際に取りはずさなくてはいけなかったそうで、結局ドアは後にすることにした。高さは十分で、水平垂直を出すだけでよかった。私も多分この方が楽なのでは？と思う。ドアを後にしたおかげで、床を変な風に切ったり、ドアの足を切ったりしなくてもよかった。
Actually this is the day I brought my computer up! Now we have lots of sunlight, and more room! We used to live in the apartment of smaller size of this room and tinier kitchen, and Josh's studio room which was brother Jeffery's room.

実際、この日が私のコンピューターを運んだ日。この部屋はより広くて、光がたくさん入る。私たちが以前住んでいたアパートはこれよりも小さなベッドルーム／リビングと今のキッチンの１／３ほどの小さな台所とジョッシュの作業場、これは弟ジェフの部屋だった。

Josh's drawing table is in study area. This space was perfect for photo booth, too. Now the guest room is all yours!

ジョッシュのドローイングテーブルは西側の小さなエリアに設置。ここは写真撮影にも最適な空間。これでゲストルームはあなた用ですよ！

counter top

We got a delivery of other floor boards which will cover most of our house, a door, AND counter top! You can't imagine how long we have been waiting for this day. We are using bathroom sink to do dishes right now. Since noodle is one of my favoraite food, we use lots of water for cooking, and also lots of times need to drain hot water. Every time we run to bathroom with pot full of hot water, our cat jump into the sink and try to play with it. Phew dangerous! It would be very nice to have a sink in the kitchen.... However, the bad news came a day before the delivery. They found our the part sink goes was damaged by shipping to the store. Oh no, that was the one we wanted the most. Oh well, we just need to wait couple more weeks.... But we got other part of counter top! The counter top in the photo above was the most simple one. Since we have stop dripping edge, we needed to screw spacer on top of cabinets to bring the top board up. So we can open drawers.

この家のメインになる床板と、ドアが一つ、それからカウンターの板が届きました！ついに待ちに待ったカウンター！今はお風呂場のシンクでお茶碗を洗っているので、これでかなり楽チンになる。私の大好物のうちの一つは麺類！なので、たくさんお湯を料理に使う。麺をざるにあける機会も多い。麺がのびるとでかい熱々の鍋を手にお風呂場まで走って行くたびに、猫がシンクに飛び込み水と戯れようと待ち受ける。危険やでって言ってるのに人間語はまだ理解していない様子。ということもあり、やっぱり台所の流しがあるのはいい。。。。ところが、やなニュースが配達の前日に入る。流しを設置するカウンターに傷があるのを配達前に発見したらしい。それが一番来てほしかったのに！まあ、また何週間か我慢して待つしかない。ま、カウンターの一部は届いた！上の写真にあるのは一番シンプルなカウンタートップ。液がぼたぼたと落ちるのを防ぐような作りになっているので、キャビネットの上にスペーサーをおいて全体的にあげてやる。これで引き出しが使える。
In the afternoon, I started upstairs hallway floor. Start from taping Quiet Walk using duct tape.

午後になって２階の廊下の床張り作業を始める。まずはダックテープでクワイエットウオークをつなげていく。
Since we got counter top, I tried making empanadas from dough using left over curry kind of thing, but not really a curry. I've ever done this before, but I liked it. I will try again.

ちなみに一部カウンターが設置できたということで、早速エンパナーダと呼ばれるカレーパンのようなものを生地から作ってみる。中身は残り物のカレーみたいな、カレーではないもの。作ったことなかったけど、結構うまい。また作ろうっと。

Started flooring

We started flooring! It would be nice to have a nice floor so we can cut out the construction dust, and don't need to wear shoes everywhere. You don't wear shoes in the house in Japan. I still not used to this custom that just going in somebody's house without take off the thing that belong to outside. It's good when it emergency, though, like earthquake. Anyway, we wanted to have wood floor, but it was out of budget for us. We decided to go with laminate. It was much easier than I thought. I didn't use any glue, or nails. And it looks pretty nice!

床板はり始まりました！工事用の床ではなしに、普通の室内の床にかわるってのは大きな変化です。歩くたびに、この何ヶ月もの工事のほこりが舞う床とおさらば、どこに行くにも靴を履かなくてもよい。未だにこの誰かの家にお邪魔して土足で歩き回るのにはなじめない。地震のような緊急の際にはいいけどね。ま、ともかく、木の床板にしたかったのですが、予算外。結局ラミネートの床にしました。思っていたよりもえらく簡単。釘ものりもいっさい使わず床が張れる。いい感じ！
However, this always happen..... After I went all the way till last row, I found out there are too big gap to leave without, but too narrow to put last row in. Now I need to start over, and cut the first row..... Ah I remember this feeling.

ところが、やっぱりか。この部屋の最後の一列というところまでたどり着き始めて最後の一列を入れるには狭すぎて、入れないには広すぎる隙間を目にする。あーこの感じ覚えがある。もう一度一番最初まで分解して、最初の一列を細くする。
After few days working on this floor, work completed. Moved the pendant light we were temporary using in the kitchen. This will be our master bed room.

何日かの作業でマスターベッドルームの床板完成！キッチンで一時的に使っていたペンダントライトを取り付けた。

Show information

Finally I am writing in here that my solo show is ongoing at The Kansas City Artists Coalition, Charno gallery in Kansas City from March 2^nd to 30th. I have some new works I did at my new studio! Since I have to start from setting kilns, figure out glazes, set up for metal workshop in few months, it was really busy. But at the same time, I was pretty happy I could start work for my art again.

今更ですが、私の個展について少しお知らせです。実は３月２日から３０日までともう既にKansas City Artists Coalition, Charno gallery という Kansas City にあるギャラリーで始まっています。いくつかこの新しい作業場で作ったものも展示してあります。間に合ってよかった！窯をつなぐところから、釉薬も新しく作らなければならなかったし、金工の作業場も１ヶ月半ほどの間に作らなければいけなかったので、かなり慌ただしく忙しい日々でした。同時にやっと制作を始めれてなかなか幸せいっぱいな毎日でした。

The opening party was March 2^nd . I did an artist talk. I was pretty nervous, but seemed like my Japanese English worked ok. I had lots of good responds. Thank you for everybody who came to the opening.

オープニングは初日、アーティストトークがあるのでかなり心配でしたが、どうもこの日本人英語が逆によかったようで、たくさんよい意見をいただきました。足を運んでくれた皆さんどうもありがとうございます。

Finally we got stove!!!

We got this stove and microwave at Black friday. It finally arrived in almost middle of February. Then we found out front right ignition was broken! Also the vent they sent us was wrong size. AH! We were full of frustration, but still very happy to have heat! Josh's first cooking.

ブラックフライデーと呼ばれるサンクスギビングの一年で最大のセールで手に入れたコンロと電子レンジ、もうすぐ２月の中盤にさしかかるという頃にようやく届いた。そして、右手前のコンロのパイロットランプが壊れていることに気がつく！しかも電子レンジに設置するファンのサイズが違う。い〜！とはなるもののやっぱり火が使えるというのはいいな〜。ジョッシュの最初の料理。

I had gingko seed I got when we went to Chicago last Christmas. After few months, it didn't look beautiful like it was before. But why not, I wanted to try this gingko roast tool my friend gave us for our wedding gift.

クリスマスにシカゴに行ったときに手に入れた銀杏。何ヶ月か経った後、以前のようにきれいではないけれど、、、友達に結婚のプレゼントでもらったこの銀杏煎り網（？）を試してみたかったのでトライ。
It worked...? But it wasn't soft and mushy like I wanted. Probably it was too old, and dried out. Or maybe I burned them too much.... Also Josh didn't like it. Well I knew he won't like this though. It's too bitter.

うまくいったのか？でもあの柔らかくてもちっとした食感は全くない。古すぎて乾燥してしまったか、煎りすぎたのか。。。しかもジョッシュは一つ食べて渋い顔をしてしまってるし。ま、ジョッシュが嫌いってことは知ってたけどね。子供にはこの深い味はまだまだ理解できまい。
I got bread making machine for my birthday. I was too busy couldn't use till now. But this is my first bred in this kitchen! Raisin sticked all around, and it almost looked like bugs. Nothing in inside.... But taste pretty good!

今年の誕生日にパン焼き機をもらった。忙しくて試せなかったがついに一つ焼いてみた。これがこのキッチンで最初のパン。レーズンがうまく混ざらず全部外に張り付いて虫みたいでびっくりした。ま、味はなかなかでした。

We are back to the house project!

Hello everyone!! It has been while since I updated last time. My show started few weeks ago, and we are now back in the house project. Finally we got internet also couple of weeks ago. And finally I brought my mac yesterday!! So I can update more often like before. I have so much to catch up.

今日は皆さん、お久しぶりです！私の展覧会も始まって数週間。今は家プロジェクト再開、がんばって完成に近づけようと言ったところです。ずいぶん前に申し込んでいたインターネットも数週間前についに使えるようになり、昨日やっとこさ私のマックを運び込んだ次第です。やた！これで以前のようにもう少し頻繁にアップデートできるはず。あんなこともあり、こんなこともあった数ヶ月なので、報告を待っている人もいるはず。

Anyway, first thing we did was finish insulating the attic. It is pretty nice now. But do you still remember we had winter? Before our gas bill gets crazy high, we wanted to finish this insulation. The thing we used was this pulp insulation. We borrow this machine from Drake.

ともかくまず最初にしたことは、ずっと気になっていた屋根裏の断熱材の作業を完了することから始めた。最近はかなり暖かくてもう春ですが、少し前まで冬だったこと覚えてますか？ガス代で首が絞まってしまう前になんとしてでも。。。今回は今まで使っていた断熱材ではなく、ドレイクに機械を借り、パルプの断熱材をする。
It is just chunk of pulp. We were keep adding this pulp to this machine from first floor. Meanwhile, Bob was waiting in the attic with tube. After the pulp went through the machine, it turn to like snow flake. This is additional insulation from the fiber glass one we did between collar ties. This should keep the heat in the house...... And now we know it really help. I think our bill is pretty reasonable :-)

袋から出したパルプはこんな固まり。私たちは一階で袋から出しては機械の入れていた。一方ボブは屋根裏でチューブを手に待つ。このパルプが機械を通るとこんな雪のようになって出てくる。今回の断熱材は、以前カラータイの間にとめていったファイバーグラスのものの上に加わることになる。これでそこまで熱を逃がさないはず。。。。。しばらくたった今この断熱材がかなり効いているとわかる。
