Happy New Year!

Hello everyone! I hope you all had a nice holy day.

We had a lot of nice big changes in 2011. But also it was a little bit frustrated year, because of the environment that we don't have a studio, and not having our own house. However, I know this 2012 would be a very good year for us. Actually as a beginning of the year news, Josh will have a debut of French edition of "Skyscraper of the Midwest" soon in France. I will have a solo show in Kansas city on March. It will be a happy busy start for both of us!

We are painting the house now, and plan to move in this weekend! I don't want to say out loud, since it always postpone. But why not, it's a new year. I think we accomplished pretty well on 2011. Still there are lots of more things we need to do on 2012. The day we will open the boxes that had been kept closed since the fire last year would be like an another Christmas. I can't wait!!!

We can't see most of you so easy, but wishing 2012 will be a very happy year for all of you.

皆さん、明けましておめでとうございます！

私たちにとって、２０１１年はうれしい変化のたくさんあった年になりました。と同時にこんなに長い間作業場のない環境と、自分たちだけの落ち着ける家がないという状況でかなりやきもきした一年でもありました。こんなに我慢したし、２０１２年はかなりいい年になるはず！とりあえず、今年最初の近況報告として、ジョッシュのSkyscraper of the Midwestのフランス版がもうじきでます。デビューのサイン会などをかねて初めてのフランスへのビジネス旅行に今月末出発。もちろん私もついていきます。そして、私は３月にカンザスシティーで個展があります。あ〜あせる。早く作業場の環境も整えなければ。うれしくも忙しい走り出しになりそう。

今、家プロジェクトは壁のペンキ塗り。いつも結局予定が未定に終わってるので、言葉にするのがはばかれますが、新年やし、言ってしまえ。ということで、今週末に引っ越します！２０１１年は後で思い返すとかなり達成感がありますが、２０１２年も引き続きしなければいけないことがまだまだたくさんあります。去年の火事の後から箱の中にしまいっぱなしの私たちの９０パーセント以上の持ち物を開ける日が近いなんて。。。クリスマスがもう一度来るみたい。あ〜待ち遠しい！

なかなか簡単にはみんなに会えませんが、皆さんにとって今年が良い年になりますように。

Christmas!

Merry Christmas everybody. I hope you all stay warm and having nice time with your families and friends. I like American Christmas. You can get more than one present. The best present I got today was a small video camera you can attach to your helmet, bicycle, etc. It is water proof and very light. We went to walk with me carrying this camera on my foot. Try to enjoy my right foot view. So far it just gave me a motion sickness. I'm pretty excited to try on different ways, and enjoy different views.

皆さん、メリークリスマス！友達や家族と暖かいところでぬくぬく楽しんでますか？アメリカのクリスマスは一人いくつもいくつもプレゼントをもらえてうきうきします。今年の一番のプレゼントはジョッシュにもらったヘルメットや自転車などにつける用の小さいカメラ。そう、テレビなので使うやつです。一メートルまで防水、小さくてとても軽い。とりあえず、午後は足や腕や頭につけていろんなところを歩き回ってみた。私の右足がどんな感じで毎日過ごしているか見てみたかったのですが、今のところ車酔いになる気分しか味わえなかった。いろんな視線を試してみようと思う。

I gave scooter a sweater I knitted. Cute!! For you who taught me how to knit, I think I'm getting better than you think.

スクータにも私の編んだセーターをクリスマスにあげた。ぴったし〜！私に手編みを教えてくれた皆さん、今は想像よりも上達してるんでない？

Day 145

Fix the corner, and ready to paint the wall color. We worked on first floor entrance, hall way, mudroom, and master bed room. Actually I was impatient, and started paint from second floor bathroom wall color today. Well, in half ways Josh realize it was a color for mudroom... I gave up. I will just paint primer for now...

残しておいた角を刷毛でうめて、ゲストルームは壁の色を塗る準備ができた。今日は玄関、一階廊下、裏口、二階のマスターベッドルームと塗っていった。実は私は我慢ができずに二階のお風呂場の壁の色を塗るところから始めたものの、途中で別の部屋のペンキと間違っていることが判明してしまった。あー、あきらめて下地の作業を続ける。

Today is the day before Christmas. Yes, we are still painting. We were hoping to move in before Christmas. But in my life schedule are always behind.... At least it is getting closer.

今日はクリスマスイブ。。。やっぱりクリスマスまでに引っ越すという予定は未定に終わったか。ま、最悪ちょっとずつでも進んでることやし、我慢しよ。

Day144

Keep painting. This guest room will be red wall. We used gray primer for the wall. So red doesn't get pink.

ペンキ塗りの続き。このゲストルームは赤い壁になる。ここは赤を塗ったときにピンクにならないようにグレーの下地を使う。
We open the second primer we bought from different store. The new one is thiner than before. We are thinking just white primer for the ceiling. So we need to paint second layer for the ceiling.

一つ目の下地を使い切り、別の店で新しいバケツを調達してきたが、新しい下地は最初のよりも薄い。天井はこの下地の白だけの予定なので、もう一層塗らないと。
Until we finish kitchen, this cabinets will stay in this living room...

Up stair hall way and dining finished! Well, we need to paint second layer for the ceiling...

キッチンの壁塗りがすむまで、キッチキャビネットはリビングルームに積み上げられる。。。

二階の廊下とダイニングはほぼ終わり。もう一重天井を塗るのを残すのみ。

Day 143: Paint!

Sheetrock done! Before sheetrock guy leave, he made this house very clean. He even vacuum all corner and gaps between floor boards. So we just started painting!!! Start from primer. We did kitchen. We also got cabinets delivered today.

内壁完成！飛ぶ鳥跡を濁さず。部屋の隅はもちろん、床板の間の溝まで全部掃除機をかけて帰ってくれました。ということで、後はとにかく塗るだけ。まずは下地から。キッチンの下塗りは完成。今日は午前中にキッチンキャビネットも届きました。
Dining room.... Well, at least started. The sheetrock guy was so kind, he left scaffolding for us! So try to finish this room soon...

ダイニングルーム。ま、先は長いけどとにかく始めた。内装の人に足場をしばらく借りれることになったので、使えるうちに済ましてしまいたい。
And second floor bathroom. This room will be a brighter yellow, since there is no window.

二階のお風呂場。この部屋は窓がないので明るい黄色で気分をごまかすことに。

Day 142

This couple of days, this house gets smoother and flatter. The sheetrock guy put the mud paste to erase the seam, and after it gets dry, he sand it out. Continue this until it all get no bumps and crack. This is the process that takes time. We decided to make texture on ceiling and closets. This way, he don't need to make it clean that much, so it's faster and cheaper. This texture called orange peel. Orange peel is a popular name to describe texture of any kind. However, it doesn't look similar to ceramic glaze called orange peel.

ここ何日かで壁は平にスムーズになってきた。内壁職人は泥のペーストを壁に薄く塗っては、乾燥後安って平らにし、隙間やぼこぼこがなくなるまでこの地味な作業の繰り返し。これが結構時間がかかる。天井とクローゼットの中はオレンジピールと呼ばれる質感をつけることにした。どうせ凹凸をつけるのでそこまでこの段階でそこまできれいにしなくてもよく、早く、安く作業ができる。オレンジピールというのはいろんなところで質感として使われるけど、陶器の塩窯の作品などに使われるオレンジピールとは違う。
This is our study room. The tool on the corner is the thing you ware on your foot to make you tall. It reminds me of my childhood running around with bamboo stilts all day long. I was pretty good at it. "Chikuba no tomo (竹馬の友）(bamboo stilts friends?)" is a Japanese expression we have for your childhood best friend. Well, I remember I was focus on how tall I can walk, how fast I can run. But I don't remember specific friend I played with. I was always playing with random friends.

これは寝室の西のスペース。部屋の隅に置いてある道具は足にはいて、高いところの作業をするためのもの。小さいときに竹馬で遊んだ記憶がよみがえってくる。かなり竹馬を使いこなせてた記憶があるけど。竹馬の友とはいうけれど、どんだけ高いところを歩けるか、どんだけ速く走れるかという自分との戦いやったような。特別な親友というより、誰でもいいからその辺にいること競争してた。
Closet has orange peel texture too. It looks like snow storm.

This is the triangle wall we made. The all pipes connect to the heater behind of closet.

これが最後に作った三角壁。このパイプは今はヒーターにつながっている。

Day 141

After sheetrock hanger guys covered this all walls, we were waited for long time to him to start fixing gaps, and screw holes. We were so anxious waited for more than a week, finally he came over and started. But that's ok. I caught up this blog. So this is on going now.

First he put white mud little bit thicker than ceramics slip. The first slip was to fill big gaps, fix chipped part using slip that dried in 90 minutes. Then started taping lines. He have tape in box. One side of this box is filled with slip. When he tape on the wall, the tape is covered with slip.

内壁取り付け班が作業を終了してから、待つこと１週間以上。すぐにでも移り住みたい私たちはじりじりぎりぎり待つしか他にない。人の予定は思うようにならないものですね。ま、その間にたまっていたブログを更新できたのでよしとしよう。ということで、これは今している作業です。

まず最初に陶芸で使う化粧よりも少し濃いペースト状の石膏のような泥を大きな隙間や、かけたところに埋めていく。これは９０分で固まる。その後、板と板の隙間を塞ぐようにテープを貼っていく。テープは平たい箱に入っていて、箱の先っぽ半分には、泥が入っている。テープを引き出すときに泥がうまく絡まって、一つの作業で二つの工程をこなせる。
Everybody have this big scaffolding. This is what we need to paint this wall, and installing lighting fixtures there.

このダイニングにこの大きな足場は欠かせないもの。この壁にペンキを塗るとき、電気やファンをつけるときにはどこかから借りてこなければ。
This is a bathroom wall. This blue wall is moisture board. It is supposed to be stronger for moisture than normal sheetrock.

これはお風呂場の壁。この青いのが湿気に強いはずのモイスチャーボード。
This is the study room the place we couldn't imagine how it looks. It looks fine! He put bended metal strips that have lots of holes on corners.

これは西の切妻にある空間。この角がどうなることか想像はついてなかったけど、うまく角がつながってる。角のある穴のいっぱい空いた金属の帯を角につけて強くする。
This is the entrance to the attic above collar ties. This is at second floor bathroom.

これは屋根裏への入り口。二階のお風呂場にある。
